— A Nervous System Practice in Times of Uncertainty
(Anchoring into what is KNOWN when so much is unknown)
The world is complex. It is chaotic and it is uncertain. Of course it is SO many other amazing things, too, but what’s true is that we have a hard time seeing those things, those safe, nurturing, beautiful things when we’re overwhelmed by the former.
I wanted to share a simple practice I call Circles of Safety that gives us an opportunity to tune in and bring to attention all that is KNOWN and what is safe. Often times when we are faced with uncertainty if we take just a moment to notice and name what is KNOWN that alone can bring us a sense of safety.
The practice also gives us an opportunity to recognize that although some things are unknown and unsafe there are ALSO what is known and safe.
In this practice, I’ll guide you to consider a variety of circles of safety starting inside of yourself, then moving out to the immediate things you’re touching and can feel. Then we expand to the room, the house, the block, the neighborhood, the city, your state, country etc. As your inner gaze reaches out you’ll be invited to notice and name the people and things that are known and make you feel safe. Inevitably, you will also encounter those that feel unsafe and uncertain.
This is ALWAYS the make-up of our lives, of the human experience. Through this practice I hope you’ll be able to find a sense of connection and regulation by becoming aware of BOTH, that both are true and are always true.
The known and the safe are always at our fingertips, if we just look.
PLEASE RESPOND with any questions, insights, or ah ha’s you might have about this practice. I’m here for you.
In service,
Chantill
P.S. You’re invited to join me and other curious humans on Saturday, Nov. 23rd, for our next free “Rewiring From Within” — Nervous System Salon.
It’s from 9-10 am PST, in a private and intimate Zoom room. I’ll be answering questions, leading a discussion on anything NS related that’s on your mind. And, as always, I’ll bring some science, tools, and other juicy stuff to share.
It’s free AND we need you to safe your spot by registering. We want to keep these under 10 people, so don’t hesitate to jump in. Register HERE.
